Hey everyone, I’m looking at some performance upgrades and thinking of swapping out the cams on my 96B motor. Is this something a home mechanic should attempt themselves, or am I asking for expensive trouble?

It obviously depends on how experienced you are, plus whether you’re going to fit adjustable pushrods and/or the cam bearings need changing. The job looks scarier than it is, just take your time and don’t rush it. Realistically? As a rough guide I’d say it should take you around 8hrs.

Took me about 6 hours total to replace cams, bearings, lifters and push rods. Like @mark says, just take your time.
